The ITB Global Studio 2026, themed “Measuring Informality and Climate Adaptation in the Urban South,” was successfully held from 6–14 July 2026 in Cirebon and Bandung, Indonesia. Co-coordinated by Dr. Ninik Suhartini, AP Petrus Natalivan from the Urban and Regional Planning Study Program, School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development (SAPPD), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Dr. Deepti Prasad from School of Architecture, Design and Planning (SADP), the University of Sydney, the programme provided an international platform for academic exchange and collaborative learning on urban informality and climate adaptation.
The programme brought together 37 student participants from Renmin University of China, the University of Sydney, Hunan University, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), alongside student participants from Institut Teknologi Sains Bandung (ITSB). It was further supported by academics and researchers from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Institut Teknologi Sains Bandung (ITSB), the University of Sydney, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Auckland University of Technology (AUT), Hunan University, Renmin University of China, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), German University in Cairo (GUC), and Universidade de Aveiro, who contributed through lectures, academic discussions, and collaborative learning activities.
During the programme, participants engaged in a series of lectures delivered by studio coordinators and academics from partner institutions, as well as site surveys, community meetings, workshops, daily reflection sessions, cultural visits, collaborative discussions, a presentation by the IKN Authority, and final presentations. Field-based learning was conducted in Kampung Cangkol, Cirebon, as well as Lebak Siliwangi and Kampung Pelangi, Bandung, enabling participants to work directly with local communities while exploring planning approaches to urban informality and climate adaptation.
Through international collaboration, interdisciplinary learning, and community engagement, the programme contributed to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The programme concluded with the Final Presentation, Closing Ceremony, and Cultural Performances. The closing ceremony was officiated by the Rector of Institut Teknologi Bandung, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., marking the successful completion of ITB Global Studio 2026.
