Shared Heritage Laboratory Workshop 22-30 June 2018

A workshop on Shared Heritage Laboratory took place on 25 June 2018 at the TU Delft, the Netherlands. This second review of the Graduation Studio Project was attended by seven ITB students from the master program of Urban Design and Architecture, and their fellow students of DUT. ITB Students are accompanied by their tutors: Dr.Eng Arif S. Wibowo, Aswin Indraprastha, PhD, Dr.-Ing. Heru W. Poerbo and Prof. Widjaja Martokusumo. The studio workshop was part of the program initiated by the School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development – SAPPD, Faculty of Architecture DUT, and funded partially by the Dutch Embassy. This workshop belongs to the first of the three batches, which starts from Feb 2018- March 2020. The whole project consists of three batches; 1st  batch starts at Feb 2018-Jan 2019, 2nd batch starts Sept 2018 – Aug 2019 and 3rd batch starts in Aug 2019 – March 2020. The project is a joint education and research program (2017-2020) focuses on Dutch-Indonesian heritage (preservation, design, development, application of Heritage Urban Landscape method) in the field of architecture and urbanism, as a long-term collaboration between the faculties of architecture of TU Delft and ITB. The case study of the project for the first two batches is the city of Bandung and the third batch will focus on the revitalization of Old Town of Semarang, Central Java.

The project is designed and integrated into the final master thesis (Graduation Studio)  at SAPPD ITB. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Widjaja Martokusumo (Dean of SAPPD and Chair of Architectural Design Research Group/ Architecture and Urban Heritage Conservation, has appointed Aswin Indraprastha, PhD (Head of graduate program in Architecture), Dr.-Ing. Heru Poerbo (Head of master program in Urban Design and Architecture, and Dr.Eng. Arif S. Wibowo (Lecturer in Heritage Documentation). Prof. Wessel de Jonge is as the PIC of DUT (Heritage Department) has appointed Monica Smit as the coordinator program. DUT students are coming from three departments, i.e. Urbanism, Architectural Engineering and Heritage.

During the period of visit from 22-30 June 2018, there were also visit to Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands or RCE (Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed) in Amersfoort, and excursions to Amsterdam, Almere and Arnhem. Visit to RCE was organized by Mr. Jean-Paul Corten, as part of the workshop on shared heritage. The visit to Arnhem was guided by architect Job Roos (Braaksma & Roos Architectenbureau). The ITB delegate had also the opportunity to visit some architecture and planning bureaus in Amsterdam, such as de Architekten Cie. B.V, Thijs Asselberg architctuurcentrale etc.

For the future cooperation, the Dean of SAPPD had also meetings with Dr. Abel Streifland, DUT University Historian, and Ms. Krista Knopper (Senior Advisor to the Executive Board, International Strategic Partnerships of DUT)  to discuss possible jointly-organized events related to the ITB-DUT, which emphasized the historical connection between DUT and ITB. The meeting was also part of the making of the ITB-DUT working plan 2016-2020 in relation to the 1st Centenial commemoration of Higher Education in Engineering in Indonesia in 2020.
