On Saturday, 27 June 2026, the Directorate of Education of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), under the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs (WRAM), organized the ITB Affirmation Student Outing: Fun Adventure Pangalengan 2026 at the Pangalengan Tourism Area in Bandung Regency. Carrying the theme “Unite Steps, Strengthen Hope, Together Achieve Achievement,” the activity was designed to strengthen solidarity, foster character development, and enhance the well-being of ITB affirmation students through outdoor experiential learning.

Affirmation students are an integral part of the ITB academic community who receive continuous academic and character development support. The outing program was organized to strengthen friendships among students from different academic years, increase motivation to learn, build self-confidence and teamwork, provide mental refreshment amid academic activities, and serve as an opportunity for informal mentoring and monitoring by the academic support team. The Pangalengan area was selected for its natural landscape and outdoor recreational facilities, which provide an ideal setting for team-building and character-development activities.

The participants included affirmation students and education staff members. The students represented diverse regions across Indonesia, particularly from remote, frontier, and underdeveloped areas, including Papua and several island regions. Among them were students from the School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development (SAPPD) ITB, including those enrolled at the ITB Cirebon Campus. Funding for students’ education is provided through various scholarship schemes supported by local governments, ministries, and private-sector partners, including the Tomawin Scholarship from PT Freeport Indonesia.

Nurrohman Wijaya, Ph.D., Head of the Sub-Directorate of Education Monitoring and Evaluation at the ITB Directorate of Education and a lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, SAPPD ITB, coordinated the activity. The participants departed from the ITB Campus by bus early in the morning before travelling to Pangalengan. Upon arrival, the outing officially commenced with an opening session and briefing, followed by a series of outdoor adventure activities designed to strengthen collaboration and resilience. Participants first experienced an off-road adventure through the hilly terrain of Pangalengan in specially equipped vehicles, fostering teamwork and appreciation for the region’s natural scenery. The program continued with a rafting expedition on the Palayangan River, where participants worked together to navigate river rapids under the guidance of professional instructors. These activities challenged participants physically and mentally while fostering trust, communication, and mutual support among team members.

Beyond recreational value, the outing also served as a platform for interaction among affirmation students from different faculties and academic cohorts. Throughout the day, participants had opportunities to introduce themselves, exchange experiences, and build new friendships, reinforcing the sense of belonging within the ITB community. The enthusiasm shown by students throughout the program reflected the event’s positive atmosphere. It is expected that activities such as Fun Adventure Pangalengan 2026 will not only provide opportunities for relaxation but also strengthen students’ character, resilience, leadership, and teamwork skills, enabling them to thrive both academically and personally.
