STUDY PROGRAM PROFILE

Architecture students are provided with the basic knowledge and skills that prepare them to enter professional practice in the design, production and management of the built environment and/or to undertake advanced architectural training and education.
The emphasis of the undergraduate curriculum is on building design, which involves the study of aesthetic principles, building technology, history and theory, housing and human settlements. The architectural design studio as the core of the undergraduate curriculum serves as a laboratory for the exploration of analytical and creative reasoning, the critique of design solutions, and most importantly, the integration of different streams of knowledge.

In January 2016, SAPPD ITB obtained international accreditation from KAAB (Korea Architectural Accreditation Board) which is valid until 2025. The professional degree in architecture program consists of four years of undergraduate program and one year (two semesters) of postgraduate/master program. At ITB, professional degrees are integrated with the master's program.

CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Students with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree can choose a career in professional practice as an assistant architect or other careers related to building design, construction, management and policy in government offices,
developers, contractors, non-governmental organizations or freelance practitioners. Fresh graduates work in Indonesia and abroad.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP
Graduates of this degree may be eligible for membership, and upon meeting certain requirements, also registration with the Indonesian Architects Association (Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia).

CURRICULUM
To maintain quality and conformity standards at the national and international levels, the undergraduate curriculum is designed with reference to the level of competence determined by:

  • Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA) / UNESCO Charter
  • Architectural Education (April 1996)
  • Korean Architectural Accreditation Agency (KAAB)

CO & ADDITIONAL CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Several regular programs are designated as part of co & extracurricular activities where students engage and develop their soft skills, including: leadership, teamwork, empathy and initiative, real world problem solving, and more. This program is designed to be multi-disciplinary and involves various parties as well as the postgraduate student association (IMA-Gunadharama).

The Master of Architecture program provides students with the opportunity to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional practice in the public and private sectors and in the academic domain. This allows students the opportunity for in-depth study in the field of architectural design and research.
In January 2016, SAPPD ITB obtained international accreditation from KAAB (Korea Architectural Accreditation Board). The professional degree is integrated with the master's program (Architectural Design).

CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Graduates of this program are employed in various consulting firms, governmental and non-governmental organizations, as practitioners, managers, researchers and policy makers. Some graduates use this qualification as a basis for entering private practice.

These programs are designed with a multidisciplinary concept which involves multiple stakeholders including Student Association of UPURP (HMP Pangriptaloka).

Doctoral Program in Architecture

STUDY PROGRAM PROFILE

The doctoral program offers specialized academic endeavors in the fields of architectural design, building technology, housing and human settlements, and architectural history, theory and criticism. The aim of the program is to develop independent research skills and the ability to link specific research topics with a broad framework of knowledge in relevant disciplinary areas.

Doctoral candidates develop the capacity to formulate significant problems; to master appropriate conceptual and methodological skills; and to carry out the original program of research.

Students will be assigned an academic supervision committee with whom they will work to further their research. All students are required to take a qualifying examination before starting research for a doctoral dissertation. Students who have obtained the status of a doctoral candidate and completed their dissertation must pass the final examination and have their dissertation approved by the examination committee.

CURRICULUM
Since 2013, the doctoral program curriculum has been divided into 4 (four) successive phases:

  1. First stage: courses (architectural research methodology, colloquium and qualifying or preparatory exams (14 credits)
  2. Second stage: proposal writing (3 credits)
    Students are required to have a 12-month stay on campus and pass a qualifying exam.
  3. Third stage: research and dissertation writing (20 credits)
  4. Fourth stage: Dissertation exam (3 credits)
