Joint Studio SAPPD ITB and SSADP

On March 27, 2020, the Dean of School of Architecture, Planning, and Design opened the Joint Studio between School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development, Institut Teknologi Bandung (SAPPD ITB) and Sydney School of Architecture, Design, and Planning, University of Sydney (SSADP).
The themes of this year’s Joint Studio are Urban Resilience in informal settlements and Understanding Self-Help Housing. These topics are very important since more than half of world population will reside in urban area and mostly in informal settlement for the next few decades. Our understanding of the problems in informal settlement is very important.
There are 59 students from Indonesia and 25 students from Australia, and global speakers from 4 continents are involved in the 2020 Joint Studio. This year, the studio takes a new format where all activities are conduducted online.
Collaboration between SAPPD ITB and SSADP has been established since 2015 in the form of Joint Studio. This year is the 6th year of collaboration between this faculties. Since 2015 more than 250 participants involve in this joint studio. Disseminations of the project were presented at various events: Preparatory Committee-Habitat III in Surabaya (2016), United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development – Habitat III in Quito, Ecuador (2016), and 9th World Urban Forum in Kuala Lumpur (2018). The result of joint studio also received an award from the United Nations (UN) as one of the 150 World Urban Solution initiatives in the UN World Urban Campaign (2017), as well as published book, such as Informal Urbanism, the Form of the Informal, Understanding the Informal City.
