On 20-21 October 2021, a virtual CITIES International Conference 2021 event was held which was organized by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS). Through the theme "Post-Pandemic Cities: A Paradigm Shift?", the Community Service (PM) ITB team consisting of SAPPK ITB lecturers and SAPPK ITB students as assistants has participated by presenting a topic entitled "Buruan Sae, A Green Action Towards a Communicative City in Bandung City, West Java.” Buruan Sae is an innovation product formed by the Bandung City Government with the aim of solving the problem of food self-sufficiency in the City of Bandung, which as a metropolitan city is very dependent on the availability of food from outside the city. The pandemic conditions that have an impact on food production have prompted the city government to take intervention steps so that the problem of food independence can be resolved. Through participation in international conferences, it is hoped that Buruan Sae's innovation products that have been implemented in the city of Bandung can provide new perspectives on problem trends and solutions that are developing in Indonesian urban areas, especially in the post-pandemic period.
The CITIES International Conference 2021 activity was opened with a presentation by the keynote speaker, Prof. Michael Batty from University College London (UCL) who describes how the current urban planning trend can increasingly lead to rational planning through the use of technologies such as simulation and prediction. Through efforts to identify a comprehensive urban system by planners and the use of appropriate technology, a simulation of urban conditions can be made when changes occur in the urban system. After the presentation, the conference participants were then divided into three breakout rooms to present the topics that had been made according to the 2021 CITIES International Conference theme and were guided by the ITS Urban and Regional Planning Department.
Together with 8 (eight) other teams on the first panel of "Post-pandemic Development Agenda (PPD) and Shifting Planning Paradigm and Approaches After a Pandemic", PM ITB's activity team explained about the innovative product of Buruan Sae. In his presentation, he stated that food independence in urban areas is one of the issues that is growing in line with the pandemic, especially in urban areas that have a high dependence on food fulfillment from outside the region. Through Buruan Sae, the Bandung City government creates space for the people of Bandung City to participate in efforts to achieve food independence in the City of Bandung through collaboration between farmer groups who have vacant land to be used as urban farming locations and the Bandung City government which has the resources and stakeholders who can assisting the implementation of urban farming. The successful implementation of the Buruan Sae innovation can then be identified by using an urban innovation framework consisting of urban hubs, local links, and urban firms. The results of the identification can then become an illustration of the things that need to be done by urban area stakeholders in creating new innovations in their respective regions.
In the first panel, after the presentation by 8 (eight) existing teams, the CITIES International Conference 2021 activities were then closed with a question-and-answer discussion between participants, group photos, and distribution of awards for the best topics and presenters communally with other panels.
