ITB and TUD has been working together on the so-called Shared Heritage Laboratory, which carried out in three stages since 2018. The studio workshop was part of the program initiated by the School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development – SAPPD, Faculty of Architecture DUT, and the cooperation of Erasmus Huis and Dutch Embassy in end of 2016. The first two batches have been consecutively focusing on historic urban areas of Bandung (West Java), whereas the last batch the case is Semarang and Lasem, a small regency town close to East Java Province’s border. They are both located in Central Java Province.

The final workshop of the Shared Heritage Lab 3 took place from 9 till 13 March 2020 at the TU Delft. The ITB participants consist of 13 students (Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design programs) and three tutors, i.e. Prof. Widjaja Martokusumo, Dr.Eng. Arif Sarwo Wibowo and Aswin Indraprastha, PhD. Continuing the one-week workshop and field observation held in Semarang in October 2019, the workshop at the TU Delft is scheduled for students’ presentation before they submit their thesis. Since the workshop in Semarang, students have done data collecting and proposed design concept and research progress of the on-going thesis carried by students from both institutions. Prior to the final workshop, on March 10, the ITB delegate (Aswin Indraprastha, PhD, Dr.Eng Arif Sarwo Wibowo, Prof. Widjaja Martokusumo and ITB students) had a meeting schedule with the Laboratory of Design Informatics at Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft. The Chair of Design Informatics, led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Sevil Sariyildiz, focuses on computational methods, techniques and applications for design, construction, and planning in order to model, analyze, evaluate and optimize human and physical performance of buildings and built environments. The meeting was attended by Prof. Sariyildiz dan Dr. Michaela Turrin and discussed several issues such as ITB’s commitments of extending the academic cooperation on different topics with TU Delft, and possible future academic engagements with the Architecture Program at School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development (SAPPD) ITB, including architecture education, research in architecture and collaboration in digital architecture and fabrication.

Started by the workshop preparation on March 11, 2020, where Indonesian and Dutch students gathered to discuss the workshop presentation. A visit to RCE (Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed/Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands) in Amersfoort and city tour were also part of the SHL 3 program. In RCE all participants were officially received by Mr. Jean-Paul Corten and then they had the opportunity to have discussion on Water Heritage and Environment in the Netherlands and some heritage projects in the Netherlands. In the evening of March 11, ITB lecturers were invited and participated in the monthly meeting of ICOMOS at The Dutch Culture, in Amsterdam

Prior to final presentation Dr.Eng. Arif Sarwo Wibowo, Aswin Indraprastha PhD. and Prof. Widjaja Martokusumo were invited to a meeting on ITB-TUD potential research collaboration. Future collaboration will be focused on Sawahlunto, which was in 2019 successfully granted as Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage Sites. The research is scheduled for the year of 2021. For the preparation, an elective urban design course dealing with urban heritage on Sawahlunto had already been prepared for the preliminary data collecting.

Final students’ presentation was held on March 12, and attended by several guest reviewers, such as Mrs. Hasti Tarekat, Mrs. Pauline Roosmarine, and Mr. Huib Akihary, including tutors from TU Delft, i.e. Ir. Monica Smit, Ir. Nicholas, Lidy Meijers. The final presentation was concluded with a remark on the students’ works by Prof. Widjaja Martokusumo. Unfortunately, the last field trip program, scheduled on March 13, 2020 was cancelled due to travel advice from the TU Delft regarding the pandemic issue of covid-19 and the well-being of the students/tutors. Owing to that global issue, thus a jointly organized exhibition and publication, based on findings and evidence of the whole projects, are likely also to reschedule.
